Lack of resources as a brake on digitalisation

Blogbeitrag Digitalisierung

In recent years, the shortage of skilled workers in the IT sector has had a noticeable impact, as can be seen from the Bitkom study on the IT skills shortage from 16 November 2022. In particular, this shortage has hampered the digitalisation efforts of many companies, as qualified IT specialists are crucial to mastering the complex challenges posed by digital transformation.

One area in particular that can stall due to a shortage of resources is the implementation of a product information management (PIM) system. Many companies have recognised that implementing an effective PIM system can play a crucial role in speeding up internal processes and automation. However, the lack of internal resources can lead to delays or even uncertainty regarding project realisation.

To overcome this dilemma and utilise internal resources more efficiently, we would like to provide you with some tried and tested tips:

1. PIM selection:
Be sure to clarify your requirements and objectives prior to a PIM implementation. This includes the creation of a comprehensive specification sheet based on your specific use cases and priorities. Careful system selection in line with your requirements can be crucial. You can also consult a PIM consultant to help you choose the right system.

2. Installation:
Consider cloud solutions that allow hosting, installation and maintenance to be outsourced. This can free up valuable resources in your IT department and speed up implementation.

3. Implementation:
A clearly defined project team with a deep understanding of internal workflows and processes is critical. If your internal team has limited resources, interim project managers and experienced implementation partners can provide valuable best practices, expertise and methodology.

4. Operation:
Continuous monitoring and customisation of processes are essential to ensure efficient operation of the PIM system in the long term. Regular training for new and existing employees and keeping the software up to date are also important measures to maximise the benefits of your PIM system.

In order to drive digital transformation and enable efficient PIM implementations, companies must recognise the lack of resources as a key challenge and take targeted measures to counteract this.
